Gonzalez, Williams Place 3rd As Men’s Track & Field Has 10, Top 10 Performances At Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – Jose Gonzalez and Chadrick Williams had strong performances with third-place finishes in their respective events as 10 Tigers placed in the top-10 at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open on Friday.
 
Gonzalez posted the SWAC’s top time in the 3,000 this weekend as the graduate student ran 8:30.48 on the banked surface to finish third overall. Teammate Albert Norman ran a personal-best in the event as he recorded a time of 9:14.51 which was good for ninth.
 
Freshman Turey Stoudemire finished fourth overall in the high jump as he recorded a mark of 6-8.75 on his third attempt as he currently ranks fourth in the SWAC. Senior Chadrick Williams finished sixth in the same event with a mark of 6-4.75 as he ranks ninth in the conference along with teammate Caleb Davis.
 
Donyae Castaneda placed ninth in the long jump (22-5) for an indoor personal best. Williams finished third in the triple jump as he logged a mark of 48-8 while Castaneda had another indoor personal best with an eighth-place mark of 45-4.25. Freshman Elijah Jordan finished ninth with a length of 43-4.5 on his final attempt.
 
In the throws, Hezekiah Freeman placed fifth in the shot put as he threw a mark of 51-1.
 
TSU is back in action at the Houston Invitational on Friday at the University of Houston.
