Golf Teams Prepare For SWAC Championship

FLOWOOD, Miss. – The Texas Southern University men’s and women’s golf teams return to action this week as they compete in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championships.

The 2022 SWAC Championships will be hosted in Flowood, Miss. Sunday-Wednesday at The Refuge Golf Club.

The men’s team placed second at the Grant Thornton Invitational where senior Landon Johnston lead the team and finished tied for second individually with a 10-over total of 226 (75-74-77). Freshman William O’Conner finished tied for 11th after firing the tournament low-round of 2-under par 70 in his final round.

“Our guys have prepared well,” Texas Southern University head golf coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.

The women’s team bought home their fourth title of the season when they won the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) Houston National Invitational. Junior, Ashlie Hobbs posted a final 7-over 223 (74-75-74) to claim her first individual title with the Tigers

“Our ladies have matured significantly since the beginning of the year. We have not peaked yet, so I am hopeful that we can continue to improve,” Grandison concluded.

The Tigers’ practice round is on Sunday, followed by 54 holes of competition from Monday through Wednesday.
