Golf Teams Prepare For Big Tournaments This Week

HOUSTON, TEXAS. – The Texas Southern University men’s and women’s golf teams return to action this weekend as they compete on the road.

The Lady Tigers gear up for more competition after their finishes in their home tournament, the Hank Stewart Collegiate earlier this week. Senior, Rev Alcantra was the individual winner while teammates, A’Marie Smith, and Lyla Vaughn finished in second and tied for third, respectively.

The women’s team will compete in the UTRGV Invitational in McAllen, Texas March 7-9. The Lady Tigers will be playing at McAllen Country Club with their practice round on Sunday, 36 holes in the opening rounds on Monday, and an 18-hole final round on Tuesday.

“As we rebuild, our ladies’ attitudes and work ethic have been such a joy,”  Texas Southern head coach Dr. Gary Grandison said. “I am hopeful that we continue to progress.”

The men’s team returns to tournament play after their third-place finish at the Mardi Gras Invitational in February. Grant Everson finished tied for third individually while DeVansh Chadha also contended for individual honors.

The team will be competing in the Colin Montgomerie Collegiate Invite from March 7-9 at Augusta Pines Golf Course in Spring, Texas. They also are scheduled to play a 36-18-hole format with their practice round on Sunday.

“The men’s team has been itching for competitive play again.  I am excited to assess where we are as a men’s program.” Grandison concluded.
