Everson Shines In Spring Opener, TSU Men’s Golf Earns 3rd Place Finish

SORRENTO, Fla. – The Texas Southern men’s golf team opened the 2020 spring season with a third-place finish at the BCGCA Intercollegiate while also receiving a strong performance from Grant Everson.

Competing against Florida A&M, Alabama State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Alabama A&M, the Tigers were jockeying for position in the opening round as they finished only seven strokes behind Florida A&M for the lead before returning to the links on Jan. 23 and tying with Alabama State for second.

The Tigers received a strong performance from Grant Everson this past week. Competing as an individual, Everson opened the first round two strokes off the lead before closing out the tournament at even par in the second round for a two-day total of 148. Landon Johnstone tied for sixth overall as he also shot even par in round two. Johnstone finished with four birdies overall, including three in the second round. Tanner Skiles and Lucas Elliott rounded out the top 10 performers as both tied for 10th with a two-day total of 154. Johnstone tallied four birdies while Skiles had two as both had strong second rounds.

Tigers are back in action on Feb. 23 at the Hank Stewart Collegiate Invitational in Houston.
