Early Lead Fails To Hold As Baseball Falls At Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. – TSU struck first but Southern answered with runs in five consecutive innings as the Tigers were defeated on Saturday afternoon.

Johnothan Thomas led the game off with a solo homer followed by Justin Cooper’s double as Cooper would eventually score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. SU answered with a run in the bottom half as TSU had a 1-2-3 second. From that point, the Jaguars would break things open with 13 straight runs, including a seven-run fourth.

By the time the Tigers returned to the scoreboard on Thomas’ RBI double in the seventh, the damage was done as SU won its second straight in the series.

Thomas led TSU offensively as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Five pitchers saw action as A.J. Winger fell to 0-1 after two innings of action.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
