De La Fuente, Smith Named To All-SWAC Bowling 2nd Team

The Texas Southern bowling freshman duo of Cassie De La Fuente and Evan Smith were named to the 2021 All-SWAC Bowling Second Team as the regular season concluded last weekend in Mississippi.

A native of Seattle, Wash., Smith ranked eighth overall in the SWAC with an average of 178.4 after two round-ups. De La Fuente, who hails from New Branfuels, Texas, ranked 10th overall as she finished the SWAC regular season with an average of 174.8.

Head coaches Frank and Sabrina Rose relied on a heavy freshman roster in 2021 as four of the six bowlers were true freshman. The foundation has been set as the group helped move TSU up two places in the SWAC standings in 2021 en route to a third-place finish after a fifth-place finish in 2020.

TSU will have nearly a month to fine tune things as the 2021 SWAC Championship will be held on March 19-21 in Arlington, Texas at the Bowling ITRC. Before SWAC, TSU is slated to participate in four tournaments across the country which will allow them to compete against some of the nation’s best teams.
