De La Fuente Earns All-Tournament Honors At Sonic Boom Classic

FLOWOOD, Miss. – Sophomore Cassie De La Fuente earned All-Tournament honors after finishing fifth overall at the Sonic Boom Classic hosted by Jackson State this past weekend.
 
TSU opened day one of the tournament with a 4-1 mark in Baker play as they defeated Southern, Grambling State, Florida A&M and Alabama State. TSU’s lone loss was by 67 pins to Louisiana Tech in its third match.
 
On day two in traditional play, TSU concluded the day with a 3-3 mark as they beat Southern and Grambling State while falling to Jackson State, Tulane and Louisiana Tech. Sophomore Evan Smith bowled a 209 in the contest against Tulane while De La Fuente (216), Jennifer Hoang (211) and Payton Trevino (202) surpassed the 200 mark against Jackson State. Smith rolled a 225 versus Grambling State followed by a 209 from De La Fuente. De La Fuente closed out traditional play against Louisiana Tech with a team-best 233 followed by Shyanne Ciesiolka’s 228.
 
Despite TSU’s performance in the win-loss column, the Tigers entered Sunday’s bracket play seeded fifth due to overall average. TSU defeated Grambling State 4-1 in the opener before wrapping up bracket play with a 4-1 loss to Southern to finish sixth overall.
 
De La Fuente finished the tournament with a 196.2 average in traditional play followed by Smith (193.75), Ciesiolka (188.75), Trevino (180.75), Leya Parker (160.75) and Hoang (173.5).
