Combs named the SWAC’s Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year
Combs, who was also named to the All-SWAC First Team was second in the league in points (16.9) per game, lead the SWAC in rebounds per game (9.0) and ranked near the top of the conference in field-goal percentage (60.1 percent). The Dallas, Texas native recorded 10 double-doubles on the season and earned SWAC Player of the Week honors five times.
In conference play, Combs averaged 20.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, and helped lead the Tigers (19-12) to a 14-4 record in league play.
Combs played a key role during TSU’s recent 11-game winning streak, during which he recorded eight double-doubles. Over the course of the streak, he averaged 22.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, and shot 63.4 percent from the floor.
As he was leading the Tigers to those 11 consecutive wins, Combs won four of his five Player of the Week awards in consecutive weeks during the month of February.
Combs will lead the Tigers in the SWAC Tournament, which opens Tuesday, March 12, when TSU hosts Southern. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
