Bowling Wins 1st Match Of Season, Closes Out Season Opener On Saturday

CUT AND SHOOT, Texas – Texas Southern picked up its first win of the season Saturday and began to settle into its own as they closed out play at the Track KAT Klash at Time to Spare Lanes.
 
TSU finished the Individual portion of tournament play with a 1-3 record which included a win over Prairie View A&M while battling Louisiana Tech, Vanderbilt and Sam Houston State down to the wire.
 
The day began with a narrow 920-900 loss to Louisiana Tech as freshman Shyanne Ciesiolka bowled a 200 followed by a 193 game from junior Leanna Martinez. The Tigers overcame the early morning defeat and battled back to claim a 10-pin (924-914) over Prairie View A&M in match two. Freshman Evan Smith led TSU with a 208 while Martinez bowled a 203. Freshman Cassie De La Fuente finished one pin shy of a 200 as she tallied 199 pins.
 
Ciesiolka bowled a 194 to lead TSU in game three as the Tigers fell to Sam Houston State. In the tournament finale against Vanderbilt, De La Fuente rose to the occasion and bowled a team-best 247 while Smith countered with a 212.
 
De La Fuente closed out her first tournament at TSU by leading the team and was 11th overall with a 190.4 average in five individual games on Saturday. Ciesiolka (16th) was close behind as she averaged 187.6 followed by Smith’s (17th) 185.2 average.
 
This weekend’s tournament marks the lone event of the fall semester for TSU Bowling as the team will return to action on Jan. 15, 2021 in Dallas for the first SWAC Round Up.
