Bowling Kicks Off Season, First TSU Athletic Event In 2020-21

It has been a long and arduous road but the first athletic event of the 2020-21 Texas Southern athletic year will begin Friday morning as the bowling team heads to Cut and Shoot, Texas to participate in the 10th annual TRACK Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State University.

The team will begin bowling at 8:15 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday at Time to Spare Lanes. The tournament, which traditionally has been a large affair and held in Houston, will be scaled down with only five teams competing. Despite the small field, the competition is fierce as the No. 2, 5th and 9th ranked teams in the preseason poll will be in attendance along with TSU and Prairie View A&M.

Friday will feature five Baker games while Saturday’s format will consist of five-person Traditional team games. The tournament champion will be crowned by total pins over the two-day event as the event will run until 1:45 p.m. both days.

The bowling team has undergone a youth movement with only two letterwinners back from last year. Four freshmen were brought in and will have to grow up quickly as coaches Frank and Sabrina Rose look to move the program back to the upper echelon of the SWAC. This weekend’s tournament will mark the lone event of the fall semester for TSU Bowling as the team will return to action on Jan. 15 in Dallas for the first SWAC Round Up.
