Bowling Has Best Outing Of Season At Sonic Boom Invitational

BRANDON, Miss. – Texas Southern bowling had its best performance of the season as they finished third at the Sonic Boom Invitational hosted by Jackson State University.

The Tigers entered the final day of the three-day tournament seeded fourth overall. They opened bracket play with a 4-1 win over Alabama State as they bowled three games over 200-plus pins with a high of 246. TSU moved on to face eventual champion Louisiana Tech and opened the match with a loss before battling back to win by five pins (173-168). Tech would ultimately claim the match as they won the next three games for a 4-1 decision.

TSU fought back in the third place match as they won the first two games over Drury University before tying game three 212-212. TSU posted another 212 to win game four before closing out the match 205-167 en route to a third-place finish.

Jessyca Driver topped the TSU leaderboard with an average of 191.2 in five games of individual play as she placed 11th overall.  Taylor Kring bowled a 186 followed by a 184.2 from Samantha Kriner and Summer Salak’s 178.

TSU is back in action next weekend as they’ll head to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the Vernell Stallings Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T State. The tournament runs from Friday to Sunday.
