OK, college baseball fans … you’ve been waiting patiently all year long, and this weekend you will get your reward with hundreds of hours of Division I tournament action for your viewing pleasure.

Beginning Friday, at least 96 games — and probably more — will be contested during the weekend as we whittle our way down from 64 teams to 16 super regional squads. You can follow up-to-the-second scores on NCAA.com, or catch the broadcast of every game on television or your smartphone via ESPN’s family of networks.

I’m not going to predict any upsets or give you my opinion on which teams will keep their journey going to the Road to Omaha — I would have never picked Stony Brook or Kent State last year — but I will share a few notes and nuggets about the field, and what to watch for this weekend.
