
The Texas Southern volleyball team will look to even the season series against Grambling State as they will face them on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Texas Southern (4-18 Overall, 4-4 SWAC) fell 3-0 to Prairie View A&M on Sunday, finishing with a .092 hitting percentage (27 kills, 15 errors, 131 attacks). The Tiger offense was paced by Amber Johnson who had seven kills, while Ava Ray and Dallas Balanay-Flores contributed eight assists each. The defensive side of the ball was led by freshman Ryan Henderson who would get 15 digs.
Last Time Out
Grambling State (7-14, 5-3) won the first matchup inside the H&PE Arena, 3-1 on Sept. 26. The set scores were 19-25, 18-25, 32-30, 17-25.
Scouting Report
GSU comes into the competition after a 3-1 victory over Alcorn State on Monday, and a 3-0 win over Southern on Sunday. After the wins, three GSU players were tabbed Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Players of the Week, including Zion Smith who tallied a combine 32 kills in the matches. Nyah Ellis was named the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week as she recorded 39 digs in those matches, while Ana Calderon was named the Setter of the Week after recording 47 assists.
