HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 2021 season came to an end for the TSU volleyball team as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Jackson State in the first round of the SWAC Tournament.

Set one was neck-and-neck until TSU turned a 9-8 deficit to a 15-10 lead. TSU upped the lead to 17-12 after a kill from Katherine Betancourt but JSU bounced back and took advantage of several TSU errors to knot the contest at 19-all. Two JSU errors shifted the lead back to TSU at 21-19 as they upped the margin to 22-20. However, a TSU service error and JSU kill knotted the contest at 22-all but Thelma Cordero Moreno scored a kill to move the margin to 23-22. JSU would move ahead 24-23 after a pair of kills before closing it out via a TSU error 25-23.

TSU led 5-4 to begin set two but TSU countered with a 7-1 run to lead 11-6. JSU upped the lead to 14-9 but the Tigers fought back with a vengeance and closed to within 15-13. JSU went on a 5-1 run to move ahead 20-14 as TSU would get within four points on two occasions down the stretch. However, JSU scored four of the final five points to win set two 25-18.

JSU opened set three with an 8-3 lead but TSU chipped away at the lead after cutting it to 10-6 after kills from Betancourt and Danielle Lilley. JSU would answer with a 4-0 run to lead 14-6 as TSU wouldn’t draw no closer than seven points en route to the conclusion of the match.

Lilley led TSU with nine kills followed by seven from Cordero Moreno. Aeris Ramsey added 14 assists while Kaitlyn Scroggins recorded 16 digs along with 12 from Lilley and 10 from Ramsey.
