ITTA BENA, Miss. – The 2019 volleyball season came to a close as Jackson State handed TSU a 3-1 defeat in the first round of the SWAC Tournament at Mississippi Valley State Friday afternoon.

TSU struggled in the opening set as JSU turned a 6-4 lead into a 25-11 decision. TSU settled down in set two and went on a 6-2 run to turn a one-point lead into a 14-9 advantage after Radka Brichackova's kill. Jackson State would close to within 15-13 and again at 18-16 but TSU held ground and outscored JSU 4-1 to win set two 25-20.

Set three was back-and-forth as both teams were tied at 20-all. JSU went ahead 22-20 with a kill and a TSU attack error but Jada Hall's kill closed the gap to 22-21. TSU would pull to within one point again at 24-23 but JSU closed out the set with a kill to lead 2-1.

With the match lead in its grasp, JSU stormed out to a 5-0 lead as TSU closed to within 6-3. However, JSU scored the next five points to lead 11-3 and extended the lead to 16-5 as TSU never could get on track as they fell 25-14.

Danielle Lilley led TSU with 13 kills while Alexis Austin added eight kills and seven digs in her final game as a Tiger. Breyanna York added 22 assists while Nia Stone recorded five kills in their final games.
