LORMAN, Miss. – Fresh off their impressive win at Texas A&M, the Tigers of Texas Southern University open Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday when they visit Alcorn State. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 5:30 p.m. (roughly 20 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools).

The Tigers (5-8) are the defending SWAC Tournament champions, and have won four of the last five conference tournament titles.

Patterson heating up
TSU guard Jalyn Patterson has averaged 19.3 points per game over his last three contests, and has shot 50 percent from 3-point range (10 of 20) during that span. A graduate transfer from LSU, Patterson was named the SWAC's Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to an 88-73 win at Texas A&M. He ranks third in the SWAC in scoring with an average of 15.1 points per game.

High-flying Tigers
Texas Southern leads the SWAC in scoring, averaging 76.3 points per contest. The Tigers shoot 41.6 percent from the floor, which ranks third in the conference.

Reed strong in the post
TSU's 7-foot-2 center Trayvon Reed has averaged 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in his last four contests against Division I opponents. He also averaged 3.0 blocks per game during that span, and blocked five shots in each of his last two contests.

… and leading the SWAC
Trayvon Reed leads the SWAC in both rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game) and field goal percentage, having made 63.2 percent (74 of 117) of his shot attempts. His 1.8 blocks per game also leads the conference.

Get that ball!
Texas leads the SWAC with a 1.09 assists-to-turnover ratio, and is the only team in the conference with more assists than turnovers. The Tigers' +1.85 turnover margin ranks second in the SWAC behind only Prairie View A&M.

Combs over double-digits
TSU forward Jeremy Combs has scored in double-figures in seven of his last eight games, and five out of his last six against NCAA Division I competition. The graduate transfer from LSU has averaged 13.0 points per game and shot 58 percent (22 of 38) from the floor in his last four contests against Division I opponents.

Tigers among the SWAC's Top 15
Three TSU players rank among the SWAC's top 15 scorers this season. Jalyn Patterson's 15.1 points per game ranks third in the conference; Trayvon Reed (14.1 points per game, seventh) and Jeremy Combs (12.1, 14th) are also among the top scorers in the conference.
