JACKSON, Miss. - Texas Southern's winning streak came to a tough end on Saturday in a hard-fought 81-79 overtime affair at Jackson State.

The game was filled with fouls and missed free throws. Four TSU players fouled out of the ball game as they were whistled for 35 fouls which resulted in Jackson State's 53 free throw attempts. However, JSU only made 22 of their attempts for just 41.5 percent. Jackson State shot 11-for-20 from the line in the second quarter, 4-for-16 from the line in the third and 1-for-6 in the fourth.

Texas Southern attempted 22 free throws and made only eight as they were 2-for-9 in the second quarter, 6-for-9 in the third and 0-for-4 in the final quarter.

TSU led by as much as four (79-75) with 1:55 left in overtime but JSU answered with a trey to move within 79-78 at the 1:15 mark. A TSU turnover led to a free throw by JSU and a 79-all tie with 39 seconds remaining but both teams would turn the ball over the next 16 seconds with JSU holding the ball for the final shot.

With one second remaining, JSU's Dayzsha Rogan was fouled. In her previous trips at the line in this game, Rogan made just three of her eight attempts; however, she made both free throws for the eventual win.

Texas Southern led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter but Jackson State outscored TSU 25-16 behind the strength of an early 9-2 run in the second quarter and led 37-32 at halftime. With the contest tied at 41-all with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter, JSU went on a 9-1 run to claim a 50-42 lead. TSU would put forth a team effort over the final four minutes and fight back with a 10-1 run to cut their deficit to 53-52 with 33 seconds remaining but JSU would close out the quarter with a layup for a 55-52 margin.

TSU turned the tide early in the fourth quarter and outscored JSU 12-7 for a 67-62 lead following Mitchell's layup at the 4:20 mark. However, they couldn't close the door with only two points the remainder of the way as JSU would send the game into overtime after hitting 1-of-2 free throws with five seconds remaining.

Ciani Cryor and Mitchell each scored 21 points to lead Texas Southern. Mitchell also pulled down 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double this season. Cryor added five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Teammate Richelle Velez added 17 points for TSU.

Rogan scored a game-high 24 points to lead Jackson State. Kaisah Lucky and Ameshya Williams each scored 15 points.

Texas Southern's next game is Monday, Jan. 20, at Grambling State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
