ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Tigers of Texas Southern University erased a 10-point, second-half deficit Monday en route to a 65-62 win at Mississippi Valley State.

Tyrik Armstrong's 3-pointer as the shot clock was expiring with 1:28 left to play in the game gave TSU the breathing room it needed as the Tigers sealed the win at the free throw line.

Jeremy Combs scored a game-high 18 points for the Tigers (9-11), who improved to 4-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Armstrong scored 15 points and Eden Ewing recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Texas Southern.

Dante Scott and Gregory Jones-Rollins scored 12 points apiece for Mississippi Valley State (3-17, 1-5 SWAC).

The Tigers continued to take control of the game midway through the second half and led by as many as seven points. A layup by Armstrong gave TSU a 54-47 lead with 8:22 left in the game.

But before the Tigers could run away with the game, Valley responded with seven unanswered points of its own, and tied the game at 54-54 with 7:08 left in the half.

With the score tied at 56, Combs put in a layup with 2:55 left in the game to retake the lead. On the ensuing Valley possession, the Delta Devils had two chances to tie or take the lead before Ewing came down with a rebound. TSU's next possession ended with Armstrong's big 3-pointer to make it a two-possession game.

Valley would cut the lead back to one point twice in the final seconds, but Armstrong and Shawn Olden II each went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to help the Tigers seal the win.

The Tigers held Valley to 29 percent (10 of 35) shooting from the floor in the second half, while TSU shot 50 percent (12 of 24) from the floor after halftime. For the game, the Tigers shot 43 percent (23 of 54) from the field.
