The Tigers (6-8, 1-0 SWAC) have won their last two contests, which also includes a memorable 88-73 at Texas A&M on Dec. 29. Their win at College Station was the program's first-ever win over the Aggies; meanwhile, the Tigers' win at Alcorn was the team's 24th consecutive victory over the Braves.

Game Notes:

Butler did it
In his two games since returning from the Christmas holidays, Devocio Butler has averaged 16.0 points per game, which included scoring 17 at Texas A&M. Since returning from the holidays, he has shot 60 percent (12 of 20) from the floor, and 87.5 percent (7 of 8) from 3-point range.

High-flying Tigers
Texas Southern leads the SWAC in scoring, averaging 77.1 points per contest. The Tigers shoot 42.5 percent from the floor, which ranks third in the conference.

Combs over 50 percent
In his last five games against Division I opponents, Jeremy Combs has shot 58.3 percent (28 of 48) from the field and averaged 13.2 points per game. He's also averaged 6.2 rebounds during that stretch. For the season, Combs is shooting 55 percent (70 of 127) from the field, second in the SWAC only to teammate Trayvon Reed.

Reed continues inside dominance
TSU's 7-foot-2 center Trayvon Reed posted double-doubles in each of his first two games since returning from the Christmas holidays. In his last three games, he has averaged 13.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest, while shooting 72 percent (18 of 25) from the floor.

… and leading the SWAC
Trayvon Reed leads the SWAC in both rebounding (9.1 rebounds per game) and field goal percentage, having made 64.5 percent (80 of 124) of his shot attempts. His 1.8 blocks per game also leads the conference.

Get that ball!
Texas Southern leads the SWAC with a 1.12 assists-to-turnover ratio, and is the only team in the conference with more assists than turnovers. The Tigers' +1.57 turnover margin ranks second in the SWAC behind only Prairie View A&M.

Tigers among the SWAC's Top 15
Three TSU players rank among the SWAC's top 15 scorers this season. Jalyn Patterson's 14.8 points per game ranks fourth in the conference; Trayvon Reed (14.0 points per game, sixth) and Jeremy Combs (12.2, 13th) are also among the top scorers in the conference.

Jones heating up
Tigers sophomore John Jones made his first two starts of the season after the Christmas holidays, and has not disappointed. In addition to scoring a game-high 17 points in the win over Alcorn State, he has shot 50 percent (7 of 14) from 3-point range in TSU's games at Alcorn and Texas A&M.

Tigers vs. Southern
TSU has won eight of its last 10 games against Southern dating back to 2015. Southern's wins during that span both came in 2016 – in Baton Rouge and at Houston's Toyota Center in the SWAC Tournament semifinals.
