Texas Southern softball is back in action for an important series against Southern University at Memorial Park for a 3 p.m. start on Thursday and noon doubleheader on Friday.
This weekend’s series is a makeup from mid-April as the team will also honor its senior class in addition to several seniors who had their 2020 season cut short due to COVID-19 at the conclusion of Friday’s doubleheader.
On the field, TSU is locked in an important race as SWAC Tournament seeding is on the line. Even though postseason is next week in Gulfport, Miss., TSU is in postseason mode now as every win moves them towards securing the top seed while a loss would slip them down the SWAC standings and force them into scenarios where they wouldn’t be able to control their fate. The margin for error is razor thin for the top four teams in the SWAC West as three teams are within three games of each other while the fourth is five games out.
TSU opened the week with a doubleheader split against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday before closing out the series with a win on Tuesday. Southern enters the series at 9-6 and in third place.
