ARLINGTON, Texas – A seven-run fifth inning was the difference as TSU wrapped up play at the Maverick Classic with a 9-0 loss to Stephen F. Austin.

SFA scored a run in both the first and second frames for an early 2-0 lead. The score held until the fifth as SFA opened with a leadoff double followed by a two-run homer for a 4-0 margin. They added five more runs from that point for a 9-0 lead.

TSU would attempt to generate some offense in the bottom of the fifth as Tevanae Tate reached base due to an error and moved to second after Paige Jackson's single. A passed ball moved both runners into scoring position with no outs which forced SFA to make a pitching change. TSU hit into a fielder's choice on its next at-bat as the runner was thrown out at home. The threat came to an end as SFA forced a line out and strikeout to end the game.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Islander Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas. TSU opens with North Texas at 10:30 a.m. followed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:30 p.m.
