The Texas Southern soccer team concludes their leg of scheduled home matches this weekend as they take on Alcorn State on Friday and Mississippi Valley State on Sunday. Friday’s game will be back at the Campbell Road Sports Park.
“We’ve had great energy during training and film sessions, this week,” said TSU head soccer coach Lindsay Vera.
The Tigers are hoping to continue the momentum after Sunday’s 3-1 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. It was truly a team effort as both offense and defense worked collectively to secure the win.
Ashley Arnes delivered a pair of headers while Hayden McMillan blasted a goal at the back of the net for TSU. The team had 18 shot attempts with seven of them being on goal. Alexis Espino also had a total of seven saves throughout the match.
Arnes and Espino also earned SWAC soccer weekly honors as Arnes was named the SWAC’s Offensive Player of the Week while Espino is the SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
“We’re looking forward to performing at home for one more weekend,” continued Vera.
Kickoff for Friday’s match against Alcorn State is at 7 p.m. at the Campbell Road Sports Park. The facility is located at 3601 Campbell Road in Houston on the west side of town.
“Because it’s Senior Day on Sunday we’re extra motivated to leave a lasting impression on TSU fans and families,” Vera concluded.
Sunday’s match against Mississippi Valley State will be back on campus at Durley Stadium with a 1 p.m. start. Sunday’s match will also be Senior Day as the team will honor its seniors during pregame.
