LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Texas Southern University soccer opened SWAC play with a victorious 2-0 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday night.

Originally scheduled to play in Pine Bluff, the contest was moved to Little Rock, Ark. due to the aftermath of last week’s winter storm in Pine Bluff. Despite having to alter plans, TSU quickly adjusted as they wasted no time securing the lead against the Golden Lions during the first half. Mia Ontiveros opened the scoring with her goal just 12 minutes into the match while teammate, Crisely Pavon scored her goal at the 36-minute mark.

The defense would take over in the second half as goalie Oriana Palacios picked up a pair of key saves in the closing minutes while the defensive unit recorded a pair of blocks off two UAPB shots. Overall, the Golden Lions had 10 shot attempts with four on goal as Palacios finished with six total saves.

Pavon, Ontiveros and Kayla Matinez led the way offensively with two shots apiece.

The Lady Tigers continue conference play on Sunday in a SWAC contest against Grambling State in Grambling, La. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
