HOUSTON – The Texas Southern Lady Tigers started slowly but recovered in time to sweep their Southwestern Athletic Conference match against Grambling State.

Scores of the match were 29-27, 25-15, and 25-18.

Senior outside hitter Audriana Carson (pictured) knocked down a match-high 15 kills and hit .407 to lead TSU (19-10) as the hometown Tigers improved to 15-2 in SWAC play. Carson also served four aces, including the match-clinching point.

Ashlynn Caldwell added nine kills on 14 attempts with no errors for Texas Southern; she finished the evening with a .643 hitting percentage. Kali Fluke chipped in eight kills and Alexis Austin registered six kills.

Asia Howard led TSU's passing with 25 assists, while Ellena Torres handed out 17 assists. Allison Woods led the defensive effort with 12 digs, followed by Torres' nine digs, and eight digs apiece from Carson and Austin.

Kevreion Ward led Grambling State (6-16, 4-12 SWAC) with 10 kills, while Javienna Jones added nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage of 14 attempts.

Texas Southern found the visiting Lady Tigers up for the challenge in set one, as Grambling erased the home team's 13-9 lead with a 5-1 run. The teams continued to exchange points until Grambling built a two-point lead close to the end, but that was countered with three straight points from TSU, giving the home team a 24-23 lead.

The visitors successfully fended off five TSU set points before the hometown Tigers won the opening set on a ball-handling error (two-touch call) against Grambling's setter.

In set two, TSU scored 10 of the last 12 points to pull away from Grambling. Texas Southern hit .440 in the second set, knocking down 14 kills and committing only three errors on 25 attempts.

Though Grambling kept it close early in the first two sets, the visiting Tigers had to play from behind in the final set as TSU scored the first seven points of the set. Grambling would not cut the deficit to less than four points for the duration of the match.

Texas Southern plays its final home match of the season Tuesday when they host Arkansas–Pine Bluff. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with the team's Senior Day ceremony to follow the contest.
