PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers split their Saturday doubleheader at Arkansas–Pine Bluff, winning the opener 4-1 before falling 8-3 in the second contest.

The doubleheader split gave the Lady Tigers (15-12, 6-3 SWAC) their third Southwestern Athletic Conference series win in as many tries. The Golden Lions' record moved to 10-22, and 5-7 in SWAC play.

The Lady Tigers cruised to a game one win thanks to a complete-game performance from pitcher Lauren Rodriguez. Rodriguez struck out 10 batters and scattered four hits while not walking any UAPB batters; she improved her season record to 5-4.

After three scoreless innings, the Lady Tigers started to rally in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Madilynn Marek knocked a three-run double down the leftfield line Jocilynn Ellis, Dominique Tello, and Terren Vinson.

Marek later scored when UAPB's catcher committed a throwing error while attempting to catch Zariah Robins stealing second base. Marek went 3-for-4 with three doubles, while Tello went 2-for-4 with a triple.

In game two, the Golden Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch their lead to 8-1. Marek and Tello each knocked in runs for the Lady Tigers. Tyra Williams took the loss for TSU, while Jasmin Fulmore saw her run of 29 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run snapped.

The Lady Tigers return home Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest against Sam Houston State at Memorial Park's McCann Field.
