CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University claimed their first win of the 2019 softball season Saturday with 2-0 win at Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.

Marissa Padron's two-run, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Lady Tigers all the run support they needed as they concluded their four-game road trip to South Texas. Terren Vinson scored the game-winning run, with Julia Bilbao following her home.

Chelsea Baxter pitched seven shutout innings and scattered just four hits to pick up the victory in the circle. She struck out five Islander hitters and retired the side in order in four of the seven innings pitched.

As the game wore on, Baxter seemed to get better. She retired the last eight batters she faced.

Padron went 2-for-3 in the game. Bilbao, Kelsey Riley, and Haley Castro collected base hits in the game.

WISCONSIN 4, TEXAS SOUTHERN 0
The Lady Tigers held the 12-1 Wisconsin Badgers to only four runs on Saturday but could only muster one hit themselves as they split the day's doubleheader.

Julia Bilbao had the team's lone base hit against Wisconsin. Mariah Youngblood scattered six hits and gave up four runs over six innings pitched. Naomi Reyes pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

The Lady Tigers return to action Tuesday when they host Houston–Victoria in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
