The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University open the home portion of their Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule Friday when they host Grambling State. The matchup between the top two teams in the SWAC highlight the slate of contests on Match Day Five of conference play.
Texas Southern (4-4-2) are unbeaten in four SWAC contests, with three wins and a draw in their first four conference matches. Freshman goalkeeper Tammy Syron and junior defender Briana Norwood earned their second Player of the Week awards from the conference at their positions for helping lead the Lady Tigers to a pair of 1-0 shutouts in Alabama last weekend.

TSU senior Paige Hayward leads the Lady Tigers offense with four goals and nine points in eight matches played this season. The striker from New South Wales, Australia, has scored 20 goals in her two and a half seasons at TSU, and is only four goals shy of tying the school's all-time mark.

The visiting Lady Tigers of Grambling State (5-5, 3-0 SWAC) are experiencing a remarkable turnaround under new head coach Justin Wagar. Grambling has won all three of its SWAC matches thus far in 2017, all at home. The last time Grambling won more than two matches in a season was 2009.
