TSUSports.com: Lady Tigers fall 72-55 at Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University saw their two-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 72-55 loss at Grambling State.

Niya Mitchell scored 12 points and pulled in a career-high 21 rebounds to lead Texas Southern (10-12), which fell to 6-5 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Olivia Cunningham chipped in 10 points for TSU.

Justice Coleman and Shakyla Hill scored 15 points apiece for Grambling State (11-13, 8-4 SWAC).

Grambling scored seven unanswered points early in the second quarter to establish a 28-20 lead and then never looked back, holding onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

The hosts added to their lead by oustscoring Texas Southern 21-9 in the third quarter. Grambling State led 54-35 heading into the game's final quarter.

TSU shot 31 percent (21 of 67) from the field during the game and was held to 9 percent shooting (2 of 22) from 3-point range. Grambling shot 51 percent (29 of 57) from the floor Saturday.

The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday when they visit Jackson State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
