PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M defeated Texas Southern 2-0 on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers took the lead in the 28th minute, when Diana Neff scored to give Prairie View the 1-0 lead.

The match remained tight throughout the remainder of the contest. The Lady Panthers scored an insurance marker in the 85th minute when Jojo Bernal got on the board to make the score 2-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Tammy Syron made five saves for the Lady Tigers in the setback. The loss was the TSU's first to Prairie View since 2014.

Texas Southern is locked in as the No. 5 seed in next week's SWAC soccer tournament with the loss. Prairie View A&M will finish with either the No. 3 or No. 4 seeding, depending on the result of Friday's match between Grambling State and Arkansas–Pine Bluff. A GSU win over 10th place Pine Bluff would set up a rematch between Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern; the two Texas teams also met in the first round of the SWAC Tournament in 2016.

Match time for TSU's first-round SWAC Tournament match at Prairie View A&M has yet to be determined. First round matches are scheduled for next Thursday.
