Amber Johnson and Gracie Hill tallied double figure kills as the Texas Southern volleyball team got its first win in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday evening in the H&PE Arena.
How it Happen
Set 1: The Tigers raced out to a 4-0 start before a service error, then added another four more to lead 8-1. The closes the set would get was 9-5 as TSU held the lead the entire time. Texas Southern led by as many as 11 points, 22-11 after a kill by Kourtni Collier as they won the set, 25-17.
Set 2: TSU got off to a 7-1 start led by a service ace by Dallas Balanay-Flores and a kill by Hill. The closes the game would get was a 10-4 TSU lead as the Tigers went on a 15-9 run to win the set 25-13.
Set 3: Chenise Cook and Johnson contributed a kill apiece in a 3-0 Tiger start in the third set. Down the stretch, the Lions trailed 7-6, but Texas Southern would stun them for six points in a row to take a 13-6 lead. The set was as close as 19-16, TSU as the Tigers would only allow UAPB to get two more points.
TSU was paced offensively by Hill and Johnson who had match-high 10 kills a piece. Balanay-Flores had a match-high 19 assists along with 12 digs.

Texas Southern will return home to the H&PE Arena to face Grambling State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
