HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University were stunned by Grambling State in four sets Monday. Scores of the match were 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, and 25-22.

At TSU's H&PE Arena, Kevreion Ward and Talicia Lang knocked down 13 kills apiece to lead Grambling (14-19), which improved to 8-7 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Texas Southern (14-10), fell to 11-5 in league matches, but maintained a solid grip on third place in the SWAC standings.

A TSU career-high 16 kills from Kirby Anderson was not enough to keep Texas Southern out of the loss column. Anderson hit .367 on 30 attempts, and her 16 kills were the most since a knocking down 17 kills for South Carolina State in a four-set loss to Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 5, 2015.

The hometown Lady Tigers saw their 13-match winning streak against Grambling snapped. Grambling State's last win over TSU was five-set thriller at H&PE Arena during the 2011 season.

Cassidy Jannson turned in a double-double performance for Texas Southern, putting away 12 kills and digging 16 opposition attacks. The team's setter Asia Howard also tallied a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs.

Alexis Austin knocked down 12 kills for TSU, while Erin Adams led the defensive effort with 23 digs. Setters Breyanna York and Alyssa Chuidian tallied 11 assists and 10 assists, respectively.

TSU's Lady Tigers had seemingly comfortable leads in each of the sets they lost. In set one, TSU held a 16-10 lead before Grambling tied the score at 18. GSU would later score five of the last six points of the set to take an early lead in the match.

The hometown Tigers had 12-8 lead in set three before Grambling would tie the score at 12. TSU held a 17-15 lead before Grambling scored nine unanswered points to reach set point at 24-17; the visiting Tigers blocked four TSU attempts and L'Muriell Thrower served two aces during that run.

With momentum on Grambling's side, the visiting Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in set four, and their largest lead of the set at 19-10 proved to be enough of a cushion to hold off a TSU comeback. Texas Southern pieced together two 5-0 runs late in the set and got as close as 23-22, but two attack errors gave Grambling the victory in the set and the match.

Texas Southern outhit Grambling in the match (.151 to .124), but GSU's 13 blocks and 11 service aces made up the difference.

The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern conclude their home schedule Thursday when they host in-state rival Prairie View A&M. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
