HOUSTON – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers split a doubleheader with the University of Houston at Victoria for the second time this Wednesday. TSU won the opener 6-1 before the visiting Jaguars took game two by a score of 5-2.

Jasmin Fulmore struck out a career-high 12 batters as she maintained her perfect 0.00 ERA against NAIA opponents in leading the Lady Tigers to the game one victory. She walked three and scattered five hits while giving up only an unearned run, and improved her season record to 5-2.

The doubleheader split put the Lady Tigers' overall season record to 13-11. Houston–Victoria's record moved to 24-14 after Tuesday's contests.

The Lady Tigers gave Fulmore more than enough run support in the bottom of the first inning as three TSU runners crossed the plate. TSU's first four batters singled, with Dominique Tello and Kelsey Riley scoring on Chanler Powell's bases-loaded hit. Powell later scored when Marissa Padron knocked a sacrifice fly.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars found Fulmore increasingly difficult to hit as the game wore on. UHV got all five of their hits in the opening game in the first three innings. She struck out three batters in two different innings.

Lauren Rodriguez set the Jaguars down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning as a warmup to starting in the pitcher's circle in game two.

Padron later added an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning. Madilynn Marek had two hits and an RBI, while Riley and Tello each had two hits for the Lady Tigers.

TSU freshman A'Leecia Bell made her first collegiate plate appearance in the bottom of the fifth inning, and was credited with an RBI when she drew a bases-loaded walk. Bell later picked up her first collegiate hit in the second game of the doubleheader.

Game two was a pitcher's duel between Rodriguez and UHV's Kelsey Tidrick. Tidrick went the distance and gave up only two earned runs en route to the victory. Rodriguez struck out four batters and didn't allow an earned run over five innings; she left the game with the score tied 1-1.

UHV's Aubri Hockenbury gave her team a lead it would not relinquish when she hit a two-run home run off relief pitcher Tyra Williams in the top of the sixth. The Lady Tigers would cut the lead in half when Kierra Patton led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run – Patton's first hit of 2017.

Terren Vinson went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that tied the game at 1-1.
After Tuesday's games, the Lady Tigers are 8-2 against NAIA opponents this season. Their only two losses came to UH–Victoria, a perennial contender in the Red River Athletic Conference.

The Lady Tigers head to Arkansas this weekend to face the Golden Lions of Arkansas–Pine Bluff in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series. Friday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
