BATON ROUGE, La. – A couple of Texas Southern errors yielded three unearned runs for Southern in the fourth inning Saturday as the Jaguars went on to claim an 8-6 victory over the Tigers.

The Jaguars scored four total runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead, which proved to be a large enough advantage to keep the Tigers at bay for the remainder of the game.

Gaudencio Lucca knocked a two-out triple in the top of the eighth inning that scored two TSU runs and cut Southern's lead to 8-6, but the Tigers would get no closer.

Southern's Daniel Franklin tossed seven and two-thirds innings and struck out seven to pick up the win for the Jaguars. He also walked six batters and gave up seven TSU hits. TSU's Seth Oliver (3-3) absorbed the loss, giving up eight runs (five earned) over five innings.

Kamren Dukes scored two runs, walked twice and tallied an RBI for the Tigers (10-21), who fell to 8-4 in the SWAC's West Division. Jose Camacho and Ricky Urbano also had RBIs for TSU.

Southern (8-17) improved to 5-7 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

The Tigers and Jaguars continue their series Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will shown live on the SWAC Digital Network.
