Texas Southern University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Kevin Granger announced today that 12-time Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Dr. Gary Grandison has been elevated to head men's and women's golf coach.

Grandison becomes the fourth head coach in the history of the program. Last season, the Mobile, Ala. native served as an assistant under recently retired head coach Hank Stewart.

"Dr. Grandison brings instant credibility to our golf programs as his overall body of work on the national level and success in the SWAC speaks for itself," said Granger. "I have the utmost confidence that he will grow the program into one that competes regionally and nationally on a consistent basis."

Prior to his arrival at TSU in the fall of 2019, Grandison served as head coach at Alabama State University and transformed the program into one of the top programs in the region and one of the most dominant programs in the SWAC with a combined total of 13 men's and women's SWAC Championships and 12 NCAA Regional appearances. He has produced multiple Academic All-Americans and has had a multitude of student-athletes compete professionally. His teams have also fared well above the NCAA Academic Performance Rate threshold including several NCAA Public Recognition Awards for perfect APR scores.

"I am honored to serve at Texas Southern University and to lean on the shoulders of legendary golf coaches and first-class administrators," said Grandison. "This golf program has produced several leaders and professional golfers that have well represented TSU. I look forward to the challenges ahead as we aim to improve upon the legacies of Coach Hank Stewart and Coach Rock Glosson."

Dr. Grandison earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Alabama State University in 1997, the same year he served as the golf team's captain and won the G.H. Lockhart Award for the most outstanding student-athlete. He also holds a Master's in Sports Science (1999) and a Doctor of Education in Sports Management (2003) from The United States Sports Academy. Dr. Grandison has also served in academia as an assistant professor and an interim chairperson in addition to working with Nike, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Alabama Sports Festival, and the PGA Tour.
