BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third consecutive week, Texas Southern University forward Jeremy Combs has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after posting standout efforts in wins over Grambling State and Jackson State. The league made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Combs posted 26 points, 11 rebounds and a pair of steals during Texas Southern's 86-85 victory over Grambling State, converting the game-winning layup with four seconds left in the contest. The Dallas, Texas native shot 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from the field and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line.
The graduate transfer followed that effort with a career-high 33 points to go along with 17 rebounds during a 77-65 victory over Jackson State. Combs shot 8-of-10 (80 percent) from the floor and 17-of-25 from the foul line in the game.
Combs averaged 29.5 points and 14 rebounds per game over the weekend, and during Texas Southern's six-game win streak has averaged 22.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, notching four double-doubles during the Tigers' hot stretch.
