ARLINGTON, Texas – The Alabama State Hornets defeated the Texas Southern Lady Tigers in two championship matches, 4-2 in both, to claim the first Southwestern Athletic Conference title in program history on Sunday.
Alabama State won the first match, 4-2 to force a winner take all second match. The Hornets won the first game 237-147. The Lady Tigers would answer in game two, winning 179-109.

Alabama State would take game three, 168-158, and game four 168-154 to take a 3-1 lead. Texas Southern would force a sixth game, winning game five 180-178. ASU would take game four 210-267 to win the first match 4-2.

In the second match, Alabama State would jump out a 1-0 lead, winning game one 201-166. TSU would take game two, 201-188, to tie the match a 1 game apiece. Alabama State would win the next two games, 186-161 in game three, and 203-187 in game four, to take a 3-1 lead in the match.

Texas Southern would force a sixth game, by winning game five 192-190. Alabama State would claim the title with a 209-161 win in game six.

The championship match can be seen on ESPNU on April 2 at 10:30 p.m. (ET) and again on April 3 at 9 p.m. (ET).
