Texas Southern will have a busy weekend close to home as the baseball and softball teams will travel to Prairie View A&M starting on Friday while both track & field teams will compete at Texas A&M on Friday and Saturday.

The baseball team opens round two of SWAC play looking to build off its series win over Southern last weekend as they’ll face Prairie View A&M Friday-Sunday. The Tigers swept Prairie View A&M to open the first half of SWAC play but with it being a rivalry, records normally mean nothing as TSU expects to take Prairie View’s best punch. In the series opener last month, it was a pitching duel as the contest wasn’t decided until the final inning before TSU settled in with decisive wins on Saturday and Sunday.

The series begins on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. start on both Saturday and Sunday.

On the softball diamond, the Lady Tigers are looking forward to a key series which will have a direct impact on the SWAC West race. Prairie View A&M is a game back of TSU in the standings and has been nipping at the heels of TSU for quite some time with three consecutive second-place finishes from 2017-2019. In addition, TSU hasn’t played at Prairie View A&M since 2018 and is looking for redemption as PVAMU won 2-of-3 the last time. Overall, TSU is 24-6 against PVAMU since 2012 but history means nothing recently in this rivalry affair.

TSU hasn’t played since March 30 as last weekend’s series against Southern was postponed.

Friday’s softball opener starts at 3 p.m. while Saturday’s doubleheader begins at noon.

Both the TSU men’s and women’s track teams are back in action at the Texas A&M Team Invitational in College Station, Texas on Friday and Saturday. The meet will feature several teams from across the region and provide a gauge of what’s needed to prepare for SWAC and the NCAA West Preliminary in May.

The men’s team is coming off a solid weekend at Baylor as eight TSU men’s athletes set seasonal marks at the Baylor Invitational. The women’s team was idle last weekend but had a full week to recover after solid showings at both the Prairie View and Victor Lopez Relays on March 27.

The meet is an all-day affair as it kicks off Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 10:10 a.m. The meet is projected to end around 9:45 p.m. both days.
