Graduate defensive lineman Michael Badejo and sophomore placekicker Richard Garcia III were both named to the Spring 2021 Preseason All-SWAC Second Team on Wednesday.

Badejo, who recently graduated from TSU in the fall, finished third on the team in both tackles and sacks at defensive end in 2019 while racking up seven tackles for loss and a forced fumble. His best game statistically took place at Grambling State as he posted 10 tackles while amassing seven tackles apiece versus Southern and Missouri S&T.

Garcia III led the SWAC in field goals made (11) and percentage (78.6) as he finished 11-of-14 with a long of 45 yards. A sophomore from Mesquite, Texas native, he ranked 21st amongst fellow NCAA FCS kickers in percentage and 25th in field goals per game (1.22) in 2019. Garcia III also finished 10th in the SWAC in scoring with six points per game.

The spring 2021 edition of the TSU football team will arrive on campus shortly and begin training for the 2021 spring season which is set to begin on Feb. 27 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

TSU head football coach Clarence McKinney will participate in the Cricket Wireless SWAC Football Virtual Media Day on Thursday, Jan. 14.
