BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University volleyball player Kirby Anderson took two of the four weekly awards given by the Southwestern Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

Anderson, a junior transfer from South Carolina State, was named the league's Newcomer of the Week for the second consecutive week. The Duncanville, Texas, native was also the Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season.

Anderson put away 30 kills and hit .449 during Texas Southern's two matches this week. In Sunday's win over the Southern Jaguars, Anderson helped the Lady Tigers avenge the team's setback in Baton Rouge with 14 kills on 19 attempts, good for a .579 hitting percentage. She also was part of seven total blocks against the Jaguars.

The next day, Anderson set a TSU career-high with 16 kills on 30 attempts (hitting .379) and tallied four block assists against Grambling. Her 16 kills was one off her collegiate best, set in 2015 when South Carolina State lost a four-set match against Towson.

The Lady Tigers conclude their home schedule Thursday when they host Prairie View A&M at TSU's H&PE Arena. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
