BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern forward Derrick Griffin has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. This is the second time Griffin has been tabbed with the honor and has done so in consecutive weeks.

Monday he scored 16 points with 16 rebounds to help TSU remain undefeated (9-0) in conference play. Griffin, a freshman who was named conference player of the week last week, was 7 of 8 from the field and recorded his 10th career double-double and seventh in league play.

Saturday at Alabama State he scored 19 points and hauled in 15 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots. His fourth and final block helped sealed the road win over the Hornets.

Griffin leads the team in rebounds (11.3) and blocks with a total of 34. He’s currently third on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per outing.
