PINE BLUFF, Ark. - University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Texas Southern University split Saturday's double header on Saturday at Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.

In the first game, Vladimir Gomez finished with two hits in four trips to the plate with three RBI to lead UAPB (8-18, 8-2) to a 9-2 win over TSU (9-16, 6-3).

Andre Davis went 2-of-3 with two runs scored and Isias Alcantar tacked on two RBI.The Golden Lions scored five runs in the first, added two in the third and another pair in the seventh. UAPB totlaed nine hits and left seven starnded on base.

Jim Ploeger (3-2) was credited with the win. He allowed just five hits in six innings and recorded nine strike outs.

TSU starter Devin Kanorik (3-2) was saddled with the loss giving up seven earned runs on six hits.Terry Samuel led the Tigers at the plate with a two RBI double in the ninth to put TSU on the board.

Darius McClelland (1-2) threw a complete game holding UAPB to two runs on six hits as the Tigers defeated the Golden Lions 5-2 in the second game. McClelland struck out six batters without giving up a earned run.

The Tigers scored two runs on three hits in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. UAPB got one run back in the bottom of the second but TSU would add three more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Zach Welz paced the Tigers going 3-of-4 with four RBI. Welz had a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the seventh.

Mikey Ramirez (2-4) was tagged with the loss for UAPB. He pitched seven innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

UAPB left seven runners on base. In the bottom of the second, the Lions loaded the bases to start the inning but managed to just scrape one run. Mitch Bruckshaw led UAPB at bat finishing 2-for-4 with a RBI.

BATON ROUGE, La. - Prairie View A&M University's momentum capped a doubleheader sweep over Southern on Saturday at Lee-Hines Field.

In the first game, PVAMU (9-12, 5-5) rallied late to take a 10-9 win after SU (4-15, 1-8) held a six-run lead through six innings.

Sean Hollis (1-0) gave up three hits and one run in four innings of relief.

The Jaguars led 9-3 before the Panthers pushed six runs tying the game nine after seven innings. Jaguar relievers Brady May and Cade Leblanc (0-1) gave up seven runs in relief of starter Santos Saldivar, who appeared in five innings.

The Panthers notched the winning run in the eighth, facing two outs, when Colby Hines singled on a bunt to score Christian Krushell. Hines, Robert Cossey, Cody Den Beste and Jeff Sealy each finished with two RBI. Beste finished 3-for-5 at the plate while Cossey and Sealy each added two hits.

The Jaguars collected 14 hits behind Jose De La Torre, Brian Rowry and Phillip Williams. All three players recorded two RBI apiece. De La Torree finished with three runs scored going 3-of-4 and Tomlin scored twice after going 2-of-3 at the plate.

In the second game, Charles Philpott gave up one hit and no runs with four strikeouts in the final four innings to help Chadd Flick (1-2) get the 13-2 win for PVAMU.

The Panthers scored four runs each in the first and third innings off of John Thigpen (1-2) to take control early. Thigpen posted five strikeouts giving up 10 runs (three earned).

Hines added a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and two hits in three appearances to power the offense. Walter Wess and Dominic Harris pitched in two RBI. Greg Salcido went 4-of-6 with a run scored and RBI. Cossey scored three runs.

D.J. Wallace provided the offense for the Jaguars with two RBI from 2-of-4 at the plate.


Georgetown 6, Grambling State 1

GRAMBLING, La. – Grambling State University gave up four runs in the eighth inning falling to Georgetown 6-1 on Saturday at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.

Edvara Matusevicius (2-5) was charged with the loss coming on in the seventh for starter Zach Moreau and GSU (6-19). John Timeo scored the tying run from a Dion Holbrook RBI. Timeo finished with two hits.

Matt Smith (3-3) allowed one run on six hits while striking out eight to claim the win. Ryan Busch and Beau Hall each had three hits. Steve Anderson had two hits and three RBI, all coming on a three-run triple for the Hoyas.

Georgetown (10-12) jumped out to a quick 1-0 before GSU tied the score with a run in the third until the Hoyas' eighth-inning spurt.
