BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Texas Southern University’s, Madison Staton and Briana Simpson as its SWAC Softball Players of the Week for May 5.
The Lady Tigers make the final week regular season play count, sweeping double awards for the second consecutive week. Staton received her second award while Simpson picked up her first honor on the season.

Simpson collected two RBI during the series against Stephen F. Austin and Oklahoma State. She drove in one run and registered one hit for the Lady Tigers; she recorded a batting average of .667 and finished the week with a .667 slugging percent as well.

Over the weekend Texas Southern concluded its regular season with 27-18 overall. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers suffered two losses against, Stephen F. Austin and Oklahoma State. Staton had an ERA of 4.20, striking out one batter while pitching in 3.1 innings. She gave up five hits, two runs and four walks.
