BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Texas Southern’s Richard Alamo and Prairie View A&M’s Darrien Williams have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the week for their exceptional performance in competition, March 1-6.

Alamo went 8-for-11 (.727 BA) in a weekend series against Prairie View A&M, including two doubles and a triple. Alamo knocked in 5 RBI, scored two runs and was 3-for-3 in stolen bases. Alamo had a 3-for-3 day at the plate in Texas Southern’s 5-6 victory over Prairie View on March 4.

Pitcher of the Week
Darrien Williams

Williams pitched six innings and scattered four hits while allowing one run Sunday in leading the Panthers to a 5-4 win over Texas Southern. It was the second win in as many starts for Williams, who improved to 2-0 for the season. For the week, he struck out three batters and had a 1.50 earned run average. Opponents hit .200 against Williams.

For the week, Williams went 6-for-11 at the plate and recorded an on-base percentage of .583, the best of any Panther during those four games. On Saturday, hit 4-for-5 with a home run in leading the Panthers to a 12-8 win over Texas Southern.

This is Williams second Pitcher of the Week honor of the season, collecting the award on February 22.
