Prairie View A&M swept their Delta road swing of Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the first time in more than a decade. Those pair of wins had not happened since 2005.

Last Monday (Feb. 22) Alabama A&M defeated Southern for the first time since the 2010-11 season. It also marked the first time the Bulldogs have gotten a win over the Jaguars during the Willie Hayes era.

Southern’s Chris Hyder leads the SWAC and is ranked 11th in the NCAA with 63 steals on the season. A year ago, he finished with 45. With three games left he his 15 shy of passing Tevin Hammond’s 78 of UAPB from the 2014-15 season

Southern is only two wins shy of reaching the 20-win plateau. Last season the Jaguars finished with a record of 18-17. Texas Southern was the only school in the league to reach that mark a year ago

After opening conference play at a perfect 3-0, Grambling State (6-19, 3-10) has lost nine in a row and 11 of its last 12.

Monday Alabama State visits Texas Southern for a double-header on ESPNU. This marks the first time since 2009 that the league has an exposure featuring men and women on the same night

Alcorn State has won 12 out of its last 14 games. One of those two defeats came from Southern...Saturday’s opponent

Texas Southern forward Derrick Griffin has broken the SWAC season record for consecutive double doubles (10) and most in a season (15). Griffin passed Demarquelle Tabb who earned 14 in 2010 with Alabama A&M. As a freshman, he only ranks behind Bill Simmons (LSU) who has 19. A player that has competed in nine more games than Griffin this season.

Southern (11-0) and Texas Southern (7-0) are the only teams still perfect at home.

Media credential request forms are now available for the 2016 Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament. Visit www.swachoops.org to apply. The Tournament is March 8-12 (Tuesday-Saturday) at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas
