Texas Southern forward Derrick Griffin is one double-double shy of surpassing Jackson State center Brandon West who finished with a total of 13 during the 2013-14. Griffin also has 43 blocked shots which is 12 more than the person ranked second in the league despite having only played in 18 of the team’s 24 games.

Dating back to Jan 11. Alcorn State has won nine of its last 10 games. It’s their best string of victories dating back to 2001-02 when the Braves won 11-of-13 which led to an NCAA berth under Davey “The Wiz” Whitney

Out of 351 Division I teams, Southern has the highest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) in the SWAC with a 189 ranking.

Exactly one year ago, a Jamel Waters field goal with a half second left in the game gave Alabama State a stunning 56-54 win at Southern

Southern is only two wins shy of reaching the 20-win plateau. Last season the Jaguars finished with a record of 18-17. Texas Southern was the only school in the league to reach that mark a year ago

After opening conference play at a perfect 3-0, Grambling State (6-19, 3-10) has lost eight in a row and 10 of its last 11.
