Creighton senior Doug McDermott finds himself just 34 points from joining Division I’s 3,000-point club, a space occupied by only seven other players. That he’s on the threshold of college basketball history is something he couldn’t foresee before the season began, given the Bluejays were making a step up in class from the Missouri Valley to the Big East.

The seven-man group McDermott will soon join includes LSU’s Pete Maravich, Portland State’s Freeman Williams, La Salle’s Lionel Simmons, Mississippi Valley State’s Alphonso Ford, Texas Southern’s Harry Kelly, Saint Peter’s Keydren Clark and Bradley’s Hersey Hawkins. Among the seven, five are still living, and three were reached by Sporting News to share their memories.

TSU's own Harry "Machine Gun" Kelly scored 3,066 points.

Nelson who drafted Kelly???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Kelly_%28basketball%29

Kelly was selected in the fourth round of the 1983 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He was cut from the team before the season in favor of Doc Rivers, Randy Wittman and center John Pinone, who were all selected before him.

I can't find the original article I was reading but it mentioned how many of the top NCAA scorers have not fared well or didn't even get into the NBA...

This article is similar, but the other one I was reading mentioned TSU's Harry Kelly and Kevin Granger
