BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern guard David Blanks has been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon.

Blanks, earned the weekly honor after his triple-double last Saturday in the conference home opener against Southern. In the 88-66 win over the Jaguars, the Barberton, Ohio native scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career high 16 assist. Monday against Alcorn State his all-around play continued as he reached double figures in scoring again with 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assist.

The last SWAC player to notch a triple-double was Texas Southern's Aaric Murray (24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks against Wiley College - Nov. 11, 2013). Prior to that, Trant Simpson (Alabama A&M) scored 22 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against Alcorn State Jan. 24, 2009
