Over the past decade, an average of exactly two teams per season have finished the season with undefeated conference records. In none of those 10 seasons did more than three teams go undefeated against their loathed rivals.
It isn't anywhere near as rare as a team going the entire season (including conference and NCAA tournaments) without a loss, but it also doesn't happen nearly as often as you might have thought.
