Baseball Drops Series Opener

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – TSU’s lead fell victim to 11 unanswered runs by Prairie View A&M in the late innings as they fell in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

Johnathon Thomas opened the contest with a triple and scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead in the first. PVAMU answered with a run in the bottom half and moved ahead 3-1 in the third on a TSU throwing error. TSU opened the fifth with three straight singles and tied it at 3-all on Jeremy Gaines’ two-RBI double. TSU moved ahead 4-3 in the same inning on a wild pitch which scored Justin Cooper.

The wall would break in the sixth as PVAMU scored six runs on eight hits as they added another five between the seventh and eighth innings to trigger the run-rule.

Thomas finished 2-for-4 with two runs while Cooper also added two hits and a run scored. Jordan Martinez was tagged with the loss as he pitched 5.1 innings with three strikeouts.

The series resumes at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
