Barnes Tabbed SWAC Men’s Basketball Impact Player Of The Week

Thanks to an average of 16 points and four rebounds in a pair of key Southwestern Athletic Conference victories, Davon Barnes has been named the SWAC Impact Player of the Week as voted on by conference personnel.

Barnes, a 6-foot-5 sophomore forward from Memphis, Tenn., is having a huge impact on the Tigers this season having started in 17-of-18 games played and leading the team in points per game at 15.7 as well as numerous other categories such as free throw percentage (77.5) and total assists (41).

In the 70-59 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday, Jan. 21, Barnes was 6-for-11 from the field, 1-for-3 from long range and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for a team-high 17 points. Banes also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Tigers. Two days later, Barnes went for 15 points in 38 minutes of action as the Tigers won their third game in-a-row with a 71-65 decision over Alabama State.

To say that Barnes is having an impactful sophomore campaign would be an understatement after having just played in 17 games as a freshman with no starts and averaging 2.1 points in 8.9 minutes per games.

Barnes and his teammates will look to ride the win streak to four when the Tigers host Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. CST.
